Aurora 15K

Highlights

  • Three fuels, one generator

Run it on gasoline, propane or natural gas; the dedicated hose connections are packed in the box. Use whatever fuel is easiest to get, from a gas can to a propane cylinder to your home's natural gas line.

  • 15,000 peak watts

The 670cc OHV engine turns out 15,000 peak and 12,000 running watts, with room to run big household and jobsite loads side by side.

  • Ready for a transfer switch

A 50A NEMA 14-50R outlet pairs with a compatible transfer switch or an RV hookup, while 20A and 30A GFCI outlets look after tools and cords.

  • Start it three ways

Fire it up by remote from up to 80 ft (24.4 m) away, by push-button electric start, or with the recoil pull as a backup.

  • CO and low-oil shutdown

A carbon monoxide sensor turns the generator off if CO near the unit reaches a dangerous level, and low-oil shutdown helps protect the engine.

  • Big tank, long nights

On gasoline, the 10.6 gal (40.1 L) tank is rated for up to 9 hours at 50% load, long enough for a full night's sleep before it needs more fuel.

Description

A tri-fuel portable generator with 15,000 peak and 12,000 running watts, a 670cc OHV engine and a 50A outlet ready for a transfer switch. Run it on gasoline, propane or natural gas when an ice storm knocks the power out.

When an ice storm brings down lines across the neighborhood, or a summer windstorm knocks out power on the farm, the Aurora 15K is the backup you want on hand. Its 670cc OHV 4-stroke engine is rated at 15,000 peak and 12,000 running watts, giving you headroom to carry several large household loads at once, from heating and cooling equipment to the fridge, lights and electronics, as long as you stay within the rating. We named the series after the aurora borealis, the northern lights that brighten long winter nights in the far north, because keeping your lights on through the dark is its job.

Fuel flexibility is where this generator earns its keep. It takes gasoline, propane or natural gas, and dedicated hose connections are included, so you can go with whatever fuel is easiest to get. On gasoline, the 10.6 gal (40.1 L) tank is rated for up to 9 hours at 50% load, long enough for a full night's sleep before it needs more fuel. At the cabin, propane keeps things simple. At home, a natural gas hookup installed by a licensed professional means no lines at the gas station when the whole town is in the dark.

Getting it going is straightforward. Use remote start from as far as 80 ft (24.4 m) away, press the electric start button, or fall back on the recoil pull. The LED-lit display tracks power output, voltage and frequency in real time and keeps count of engine hours, so you can see how hard it's working and keep maintenance on schedule. For hookups, a 50A NEMA 14-50R outlet pairs with a compatible transfer switch or an RV, and 20A and 30A GFCI outlets look after tools, cords and everyday gear on a jobsite or around the property.

Protection is built in. Low-oil shutdown helps save the engine if the oil level drops, a carbon monoxide sensor switches the generator off if CO near the unit reaches a dangerous level, and the outlets carry overload protection. It all rides in a welded, heavy-gauge steel frame. Always run it outdoors, well away from windows, doors and vents; the CO shutdown is a backstop, not a substitute for safe placement. The Aurora 15K is covered by our 3-year limited warranty and ships by freight with free curbside delivery.

FAQs

Questions & answers

What fuels can the Aurora 15K use?

Any of the three: gasoline in the 10.6 gal (40.1 L) tank, or propane or natural gas through the dedicated hose connections that come in the box. Have a licensed professional make any natural gas connection at home, and check the owner's manual for output figures on each fuel before you plan your loads.

How long does a tank of gasoline last?

The 10.6 gal (40.1 L) tank is rated for up to 9 hours at 50% load. Actual runtime depends on how much you have plugged in, and the digital display shows power output so you can keep an eye on your load.

Can it back up my house through a transfer switch?

Yes. The 50A NEMA 14-50R outlet is made for connecting to a compatible transfer switch. Have a licensed electrician install the switch, and add up the running watts of everything you want to power so the total stays under 12,000 W.

What warranty comes with it?

The Aurora 15K comes with our 3-year limited warranty. Check the warranty terms for full details on what's covered and how to make a claim.
